The team comprised of 12 members. The overall situation at the school was not encouraging, while some of class 2 students were able to do multiplications; few of class 5 were not even able to write their names. After an overall assessment we clubbed the students in 3 batches: class 1-2, class 3 and class 4-5.It was necessary to present the matter intelligently due to the extremes and credit to our creative heads we were able to do exactly that with the help of presentations, videos, etc. Charts were pasted on walls and at the main entrances of the school to grab the attention of not only the students, but also of their parents and explain to them that education is the only way to increase their child’s potential and ensure a better future. The event was started with the video released by the govt. promoting the primary education titled:

“SURAJ SA CHAMKE HUM SCHOOL CHALE HUM”

That chimed in with more activities mostly concentrated to Ignite the interest of the children. Our team focused on 4 basic grey areas English, Hindi, Mathematics and general awareness. English classes were followed by a small animated movie with a moral attached to it. Later the students were asked to put in their words what they understood. And though it was dicey for few, many were able to get the meaning straight. The team made sure that every student participated. In the Hindi class students were taught to write the letters with the help of a video. The basic question we had while preparing our matter was how to monitor what they learned? So as a report card for Both the students and also for us, we introduced this concept of “CARRY YOUR CARD”. In this we handed id card sized papers which was divided in two parts, to students and made them write their names in Hindi as well as English and then asked them to color it with sketch pens, etc. The students were then given plastic covers and it was pinned to their shirts.

The team was well supported by the school teachers in handling the kids. At the end of the day the students were collected in a courtyard and the song: “hum hinge kayak eke din” was sung. We did it and so can you.
